Change Your Mindset

Have you ever thought about what the "perfect" life might look like for you? Pause for a second...how many times have you told yourself, "if I just get this job, my life would be perfect". If I just get married, if I just have a baby, if we just get a house, if I just loose 20 pounds, THEN I'll be happy. I get it, I've asked myself similar questions. And when the things we desire don't happen the way we intended, we get upset and discouraged. Let me say this first, God's plan is always better than ours. We can only control so much in our life, so there's no need to stress about the things we can't. Let God take control of that!

Social media doesn't make it any easier either. Scrolling through only to see someone that has the life that you want. The comparison game can be so dangerous. But what if you were to take a step back and actually appreciated what you have? Slow your day down and truly think about how blessed you really are. We are so quick to complain about our lives instead of turning it around to see how fortunate we really are.

When you wake up in the morning, instead of grabbing your phone, grab a notebook or just allow yourself some quiet time. What are the things you're thankful for? Let it be as big or as small as you need. And then think/write about the things that you want to work on. It's not a bad thing to have something to improve on, it's a way of growing! I think it's necessary to have goals throughout your life. Each stage needs a new set of goals.

Here comes the tricky part, goal setting. Why did you choose a certain goal(s) and what has held you back from achieving that goal(s)? Think back to your New Year Resolutions (I know you made some). What were they? Did you stick with them? If not, why?...

Here's what happens with goals, you have this idea in your mind of something you want to get better at, which is great, but you fail to have a plan. Excitement and motivation tend to be high in the beginning stages which pushes you to keep going. But as weeks and months go by and life gets in the way, we go back to a normalcy, we get "too busy" and we find every excuse to stop. We would rather be comfortable where we're at instead of being uncomfortable by challenging ourselves to get better.

I get it all the time...where do you find motivation? I can't do what you do. I'm not in shape like you. I don't have enough will-power to do that. I wish I was able to do that. STOP!! Why can't you do those things? Why do you doubt yourself? What's holding you back? Why do you give up? I get it, I understand what it's like to be frustrated. Do you have anger and frustration? Good, use it to fuel yourself to change!

Motivation will come and go, but discipline stays forever. If you truly want something, have a plan. Start small and schedule time out of your day to get it done. I promise you, that tracking your progress and creating a schedule will make a world of a difference.

Start tomorrow! Wake up, make some coffee (I love my quiet, coffee mornings), and start thinking of the things that you're thankful for, and then plan your day. Map it out in a planner to keep yourself accountable. Just remember to take things one day at a time. You won't be perfect, you'll mess up a lot, but how you bounce back is what's important!

If you need someone to hold you accountable, let me know. I would love to be your cheerleader!
